Gary K One Step At A Time is a one hour feature documentary.
Gary is an actor who traveled the globe playing the male leads in many of the great Broadway musicals, His multiple savage addictions took everything he had. He lost his starring roles, his career, his family and almost his life.
The film tells the story of Gary's rise out of the nightmare of addiction to become a nationally renowned recovery adovcate, educator, author and addiction counselor.
Filmmakers followed Gary for ten years of his odyssey - getting sober, resurrecting his acting career as he toured North America portraying AA Co-Founder Bill W. He survives a near relapse, and re-dedicates his life in service to addicts and alcoholics on the front lines of the opioid epidemic.
Relocating from New York City to Delay Beach, Florida – Gary battles to save lives as a drug and alcohol counselor - teaching about the brain disease of addiction and the healing power of 12 Step programs - at the epicenter of America's opioid plague.
Gary dedicates his life to help fellow addicts and alcoholics, showing them that recovery is not only possible for everyone but also enjoyable - inspiring them to begin their journey. Through Gary, 12 Step recovery is honestly lived on screen and demonstrates that his daily commitment to save the lives of others is what keeps him clean and sober, one step at a time.
Gary K. One Step at a Time, was produced, directed and filmed by Emmy and Academy Award winning filmmakers and has won accolades at film festivals throughout North America and recovery events where it has been shown in tandem with Gary's live presentation.
Bestor has over thirty years of experience as a director, producer and cinematographer. In 1982, Bestor founded Northern Light Productions which, under his direction, has produced over fifty major films, ranging from broadcast documentaries to historical, dramatic, and educational works. His broadcast credits include the Sundance Film Festival selections Unfinished Symphony, and You Don't Know Dick, the Emmy nominated Discovery Channel special, the HBO special Mumia Abu-Jamal: A Case for Reasonable Doubt?, the PBS/BBC series China in the Red, the 1995 Documentary Academy Award winner Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision and the PBS American Experience series Mary Pickford, Eleanor Roosevelt, Oscar Micheaux and The History of Race Movies. Bestor is a member of the International Quorum of Film and Video.

Susan is the winner of the Prix Europa (Europes Academy Award for her documentary Citizen Berlusconi). Susan Gray is an award-winning producer/director/writer with extensive experience producing for public television and cable in the United States and abroad, working on projects that have aired on PBS, National Geographic Channel, Animal Planet, Channel 4 England, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Arte, NHK and more. Selected credits include, Killer Poet (2007). The Prime Minister and the Press: Citizen Berlusconi (2003) on Italys Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and Public Enemy (1999), a portrait of four Black Panthers today. She has an MA in Journalism from Columbia University School of Journalism and an MA in International Relations and International Economics from John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Her most recent film EARTH EMERGENCY Narrated by Richard Gere - debuted December 29 on PBS Nationally and was featured on a world wide live stream hosted by the Dali Lama and the center piece of a climate change conference in Glasgow hosted by King Charles the Third and has gamered International acclaim.
Josh Morton is best known for his innovative camera work and pioneering special effects for STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE. Josh's cinematography work is seen in countless Hollywood feature films and television films including MY NAME IS BILL W and television production COPS. He currently teaches filmmaking at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Mike has directed and edited over a dozen award-winning documentaries that have screened on television and in festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Toronto, Silverdocs and the Human Rights Watch Festival. Mike Majoros is best known for Unfinished Symphony: Democracy and Dissent (2001), The Last American Colony (2019) and Weapons of Mass Disruption (2011). Mike also produces exhibits for museums including the American Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Institution and the International Spy Museum. After studying visual anthropology and film, he received his graduate degree from the MIT Media Lab in 1986. From 1990-2011, he taught senior-level degree project students at the Rhode Island School of Design.
